Patrons Lunch Puppets

Home Project Management Puppet

Brief: Build and operate 2 giant puppets to represent the school children of Britain

Event: Patron’s Lunch, The Mall, London.

Role: Project Manager (budget setting & management, scheduling, contracts, recruitment, client liaison, risk assessments, logistics), Assistant Maker.

Client:  Kinetika Design Studio

Through a series of on site consultations with the client and working with the puppet master Tony Mason and costume maker Iola Weir these two giants came to life quickly.  The full list of artist credits can be found on the Kinetika website.

The puppets are approx 3.5m tall, a bit smaller than usual to avoid some low hanging trees around St James’ Park.

On the day it rained heavily for the practice run so the puppets sat it out for safety reasons.  Luckily the weather cleared up for the live run and Smoking Apples did a great job puppeteering with a crew of 8.

10,000 ticket holders lined the Mall as we paraded towards Buckingham Palace along with the Gruffalo. At 4pm we joined thousands of people singing Happy Birthday to Her Majesty and then paraded back around St James’ Park.

These puppets now belong to Kinetika and are available to hire.
