Recycled Tutu

Costume

Brief: Make 2 giant carnival tutus from tents and other recycled fabrics for Mill Road Winter Fair in Cambridge.

Event: Mill Road Winter Fair, Cambridge

Role: Project Manager, Maker.

Client: Kinetika People

About 80% of the materials for these costumes are recycled, even the screen print pattern was from a previous project.  The skirts were originally tents donated by Nicky Webb, the top is made from all kinds of recycled fabrics.

Once I’d found the right printing binder to get the print to stick to tent fabric, I also added some silver metal powders for a bit of sparkle.

Both the top and skirt are designed to fit a variety of different sized performers so adjustments can be made on the day.

This was in addition to a larger project working with Kinetika and Parkside Federation to deliver carnival workshops and costumes for the parade.

Date: December 2012 and reused in 2013 & 2014

These are available to hire from Kinetika.
